Random Thoughts at the End of the Week Including really hot links of attractive people. Post Date: 8/30/04 Original Journal Date: 8/29/04 So the Olympics are Over You know, I never for a moment thought that when the Olympics were over I would be saying anything other than that the hottest, purely sexiest moment of the Olympics was Michael Phelps doing, well, anything. I mean that including doing his dorky cell phone commercial. I mean, look at the boy. But then, reality settled in, and clearly, the hottest, steamiest moment in the entire Olympics was this. Does anybody now not have a crush on Misty May and Kerri Walsh? I didn't think so. And also, you are welcome. I can think of no less than fourteen people who upon reading this will immediately be downloading photos for more intimate use later. I live to give you the good stuff. The moment in the Olympics that made me cry was when Andre Ward won his gold medal in boxing. Did you know he trained at the same boxing gym I trained at? I bet they were all there watching the match. And I cried. How Google Ruined my Moment So today, somebody sent me an email that (also) made me cry. And it was this really lovely, beautiful email that was from somebody's heart but also clearly written with a lot of sensitivity to some things that I need right now. And here was the problem. It came to my gmail address, and because this person had quoted Velvet Underground in the email message, I got to look at a ton of contextual ads to buy Neil Diamond cds. I'm not kidding you. A Velvet Underground quote seemingly summond ads for Neil Diamond. I was having a moment, and then all of a sudden I was like, "I should buy a Neil Diamond cd," except I wasn't like that because most contextual ads are totally inappropriate. Always. I mean, and even worse was that there was also a Moby Dick quote, but yet none of the contextual ads suggested I improve my literacy by buying the book. Oh, and also, somehow I pulled a contextual ad promising to tell me "the truth about homosexuality." And thank Christ that ad showed up so I could get distracted from my meaningful and heartfelt email to learn about the views of GodAndHomosexuality.com. So there was my moment, and there Google, ruining it. My Friends are Cool My friends did some cool things this week. G-Man of Playsure is the featured article on tevee.org, even if I still hate all the Kim Bauer plotlines. Matt McD created this entire project for Yahoo. How freakin' cool is that? |
